In the end it seems Python beat out Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, and Lua as the king of convenience languages, which only exist because C(++) takes forever to compile nitpick your syntax to death. Now that language designers have run out of 'clever' hooks for new languages, it is only a matter of time until a master architect distills this mess into a single proper language. But not in our lifetimes.
And that's why we can't have nice things, etc, etc. "Learn to program, build anything your heart desires!" they said. But if you want to build real software, you'll mostly be learning and relearning the intricacies of ecosystems/jungles like C++, Python, .NET, and HTML5.
