I think most of us who are old enough must be aware of this. The old fashioned bank manager (Captain Mainwaring comes to mind) was a person of influence in their community (sometimes of power) who evaluated customers from their base of knowledge and experience. These have now been replaced by a sales team who flog loans and investments based on what the computer tells them to do. Actual customer service is seen as a diversion from the core role of sales. So to branch closures.
