"Has anyone suggested a timescale for how long it will take to design, test and roll out production on a new CPU design that is immune?"

For Intel? You may apparently have missed out the step to "fund and recruit a team of managers and technical people with a clue", which may not happen quickly.

For Intel's competitors? Several of them have the people and products right now, maybe all they need is chip production capacity (which many of them contract out anyway), so a few weeks to get started and a few months for reliable volume production, if all goes well.

Obviously it's actually a little more complicated than that, but 2020 seems a bit of a generous estimate.

Meanwhile, is Dell still basically an Intel-only shop? Where does all this leave Dell (and Dell's customers) for the next few months?
