I think I'd be fine with some server-grade ARM as a basis for a Linux/whatever desktop. The multitude of cores, provided they have tolerable IPC characteristics (interprocess comms, not quite as concerned with instruction rates with that many cores), would likely jive well with modern browsers' multi-process designs.
