Yeah, we spend well north of $1m a month and often compete directly with AWS. Amazon's sales guys are much like any others. There are quotas to be met and discounts to be had. They know that we're all keen to avoid lock in so they try to make the process of locking us into AWS as painless as possible.

This wasn't always true - for a long time there simply wasn't an AWS sales team, and heaven help you if you needed some support. Now? Bollocks.
