There are more than few things in Linux kernel which BSD does not have. For a start a huge selection of drivers, compatibility with a vast selection of hardware platforms, mature and low overhead hypervisor and support from a large selection of vendors.

This is in fact quite similar to the set of benefits which Windows once enjoyed in comparison to early versions of Linux.
