What are you talking about - Linux can run legacy software including that written for Unix and it doesn't have compatibility problems between versions.
Windows ties you into versions very tightly - this is not attractive to anyone except Microsoft.
Please tell us more about "attractive" Windows server because the market has spoken and it is on its way out!
