Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality.

Which is pretty much what Albert Einstein (a contemporary of Tesla) did in his development of general relativity. Except that his "structure" turned out to have a pretty damn strong relation to reality.
