FWIIW, the German word for it is Sackgasse.

Gasse: alley, narrow street

Sack: bag, sack (as in a sack of spuds), colloquial abbrevation for Hodensack = scrotum (as in "Ey, geh' mir nich' auf'n Sack, Alter!")
