You might need to explain to some of the youngsters here (I guess about 50% of the readership) what a "punched card" is... I'll back you up, when they start downvoting you in disbelief. You could also mention that new-fangled high-speed technology, "punched tape", which, believe it or not dear readers, not only enables high speed parallel I/O but also eliminates the danger of "card stack drop" for greater software resiliency. Marvellous invention, I tell you. I just hope it catches on.
