Systemd and the rest of the Freedesktop.borg is basically making Linux windows lite. Honestly I don't like it but have accepted it as Red Hat write a lot more code than I do. It does play much better on most hardware for non server roles than say FreeBSD (laptop suspend and resume good luck with that one) and Linux one killer feature for many home users is Steam which runs like shit emulated on FreeBSD. More and more it just works even for Grandma. That said I still do my banking using OpenBSD and do what I can at work to discourage its use in mission critical server roles (fsck SELinux also which exists to silently fsck you over instead of the bad guys). POSIX is all but dead with proprietary UNIX dead. Sigh.
