I believe these machines do full stock control for the drugs used, so have to communicate stock levels / use / anticipated demand to the parent dedicated server, which in turn need to communicate externally with various drug supplies. In the UK you'd route this through the NHS N3 network, but its still going to be exposed to the internet at some point
