I have seen a RAID controller do that automatically...
Mirrored disks, one fails - alarm goes off, everyone carries on.
Pull it out, all good.
Pop in a new disk, all good
Array starts churning, excellent - copying data from one to the other, tea time.
Erm, where are all the files?
