Yes I understand it is extremely difficult to check and establish 'facts' given that the accused is dead and the time which has passed since the alleged incidents.
The name Jimmy Saville was used as a topical example that outwardly appearing to do good works and an individual's personal moral or criminal conduct do not go hand in hand.
The OP was struggling with the fact that people are selective in their beliefs if faced with a dichotomy. Its a human failing, its just that a fair proportion see this in others and understand how to exploit it. This is generally by making themselves out to be a victim while subtly reminding you of their importance or sanctity.
