Not stupid, not brand loyal - just trying to do the best for my dyslexic daughter (you did read my whole post yes?), We went through a similar process when acquiring her school laptop - with that we ended up not only with Win 8 but the spacing, shape, colour and typeface of the physical keyboard was equally important to stop her brain bouncing the keys around and making it impossible to work on - we spent a lot of time in computer shops trying out different machines to get that one sorted...
