Panasonic LCD telly..
... seems to have a low power mode. When you press "standby" it goes dark - about 5 minutes later, you hear a "tick" of a relay changing. If you subsequently switch it on again, starting up takes as long as it does from cold.
I'm guessing that it has two power supplies, a big one to run it normally, and a weeny one to power the remote control receiver.
