The Swedish prosecutor leading an investigation of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is today seeking a court order for his arrest, so she can interrogate him on allegations of rape and molestation. Marianne Ny indicated that efforts to question Assange on a voluntary basis have been unsuccessful. "The reason for my request is …

    WTF?

    So I guess...

    ...the check cleared.

Seriously though, Sweden tops the rape/inhabitant list in the same way as Stalin's Russia topped the spys/inhabitant list.

      WTF?

      Oh

      Oh yes, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics

Sweden is #2 in the world statistics with 53.2 reported cases per 100,000. England and Wales is 24.1. Of course, the REPORTED rate depends on a number of factors and does not accurately reflect the total incidents including UNREPORTED ones.

      Even so.. that's a statistic I wasn't expecting.

        Stop

Reported rapes != number of rapes

        Also, accusation != guilt

    Whereabouts

    "His current whereabouts are unknown."

Just switch the over-inflated-ego scanner on - the big red blob on the screen will be him.

This title should be washed in warm water and not tumble dried.

I suppose in this instance if Assange had instigated a leak the Swedish police would have DNA evidence.

      Yes...

...but the 'leak' may have been consensual.

    Hmmm...

OK I'll give the Swedes the benefit of the doubt, but seems a little coincidental that and internet motor-mouth bloke, who's in the business of shooting his mouth off about the business the world's governments get up to, is suddenly on a sexual offences rap?

I don't support the bloke, I think he's a right prat, but this all seems a little too convenient for my liking.

      So...

...what you're saying is that the leak has now been stitched up?

      Indeed

This has Säpo (The Swedish Spooks) written all over it.

Säpo and the Swedish judicial system have a long, sorry form as regards bending over for their American counterparts, even handing Ahmed Agiza and Mohammed Alzery directly over to a CIA-spook torture-flight at Bromma Airport which really made the shit hit the fan here, and of course even the infamous Pirate Bay knobbled-judge fiasco.

Of course there'll never be enough actual "evidence" to convict him of more than stepping on the cracks in the pavement, but the damage is done. Classic Säpo M.O.

Hope I remembered the anon button.

    Anyone see the irony here?

From the lawyer's statement: "as revealed to the press through unauthorized disclosures". Surely Assange is the last person who should be raising a stink about leaking unauthorized disclosures.

    Hmmmmmmm

"The identification, exposure, or termination of employment of or legal actions against current or former insiders, leakers, or whistleblowers could damage or destroy this center of gravity and deter others from using Wikileaks.org to make such information public."

I'm sure this is all just a big coincidence.

Of all the players in the particular round of tricks I tend to side with Assange.

I am just surprised the Swedes decided to help the U.S. in this way.

      Surprised?

No doubt SAAB do well out of the Merkins' wars, and they surely have some clout at home. Then, of course, there's Bofors.

The title is required, and must contain letters and/or digits.

Oh, what does the "S" stand for? I thought it was Sverige....
