Australians go to the polls on Saturday and Google had already approved the advert in question. But on Thursday it abruptly stuck an "adults-only" tag on adverts from the Australian Sex Party, which campaigns …

Lesson learned? Censorship is dumb thinking

Perhaps the intelligence challenged sponsors of Nanny Net (Australian style) should think of what they are proposing to do for whole of the Oz nation.

Without a doubt, they will learn nothing.

    Joke

    Completely OT...

"The ASP began running an online campaign..."

Would ASP have anything to do with Cleopatra, d'y think?

And as readers of Asterix may recall, she had *such* a cute nose!

I probably wouldn't vote for them

But, I might help them campaign from time to time.

    Silly Aussies

Google is 'merkin. This means that filtering out words that any soap-box mounted bible-thumping right-wing christian fundamentalist might consider objecting to is not 'censorship' but 'consistent with family values'

    @Lesson learned

That banning your political opponents while claiming that you are doing it for the children can keep you in power for a long time.

Not something dear Adolf came up with.

For example, so sayeth all the crusades, some of which were quite adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It's actually quite appalling how those wily brownshirts infected daily life more and more in the run-up to the war. But they never were much traditional religion themed. That was just left over themes from the previous owner left in.

The real question is why google saw fit to shoot themselves in the foot that way. I think it might very well go on to hurt them a bit, at least down under, for a while to come.

      Not really

"Der alte Fritz" might be more accurate time-wise.

I will likely vote for them in the senate.

Despite their silly name, they seem to have a very good and wide platform portfolio covering an awrful lot of the same human rights stuff I feel strongly about.

i voted ASP in the upper house because...

at least then there might be someone in the Senate who had to act like an adult !

none of the others seem at all interested...

unhappy 'cos i don't think they're going to get a quota
