    What's the point?

    "It provides a pricing example in which SLC flash costs $6.75 per GB and has an endurance of 50,000 program/erase (P/E) cycles, whereas MLC costs $1.58/GB but has only 3,000 P/E cycles. Anobit says MLC flash with MSP costs the same as the SLC flash and delivers 50,000 P/E cycles too."

    So, this new flash is as fast as SLC, has the same endurance as SLC, and costs the same as SLC. Why not just buy SLC?

      Our mistake; the text should have read, and now does, MLC and not SLC. Duh. Holds head in shame.

    Anobit clarifies MSP and Genesus relationship

    An Anobit spokesperson clarified the relationship between Genesus and the MSP technology, saying: "Regarding the SD, microSD, and USB flash drives, these products have first generation Anobit *MSP* baked into them, not Genesis SSD technology (the distinction being that MSP is the secret sauce within Genesis, but Anobit also offers MSP on its own). The 'second generation product' you reference here is also the underlying MSP, and the not the Genesis SSD itself."

    The articlehas been amended to make this clear.

    Missing the point -- over and over and....

    The nonsense persists.

    The relevant "performance" problem with MLC has nothing to do with endurance -- which is easily and cheaply fixed via widely known wear leveling and over-provisioning techniques, This without any need for some single-source mystery "algorithms".

    No...the performance problem with MLC is write latency (or to be strictly accurate, erase-reprogram speed).

    MLC is not only much slower than SLC, but it gets slower and slower as MLC densities increase.

    The NAND Flash issue going forward is write performance -- period. Anobit does absolutely nothing about this, at least nothing they can articulate or quantify.

    Anobit looks like another startup with no storage industry background whatsoever soaking VC cash ($40 million so far) from the NAND flash SSD hype-cycle.
