Google's CEO has been lauding iAd, saying that Apple's foray into mobile advertising demonstrates a competitive market in which Google should be allowed to acquire AdMob. Google has been trying to buy AdMob since November, having snatched the company from Apple, but is facing resistance from the Federal Trade Commission who …

    how exactly?!

is iAd a competitor to Admobile given any sane buisness move for Admobile would be to target all handsets except the Jesus line.

"""is iAd a competitor to Admobile given any sane buisness move for Admobile would be to target all handsets except the Jesus line."""

Given that Admob is currently the largest advertiser on the iPhone platform, it's hard to see how anyone could think that they don't compete. In fact seems reasonable that iAd as a direct attack on Google, assuming they manage to buy Admob, since iAd's features should make it the obvious / preferred choice for Apple mobile advertising, which will significantly cut down on Admob's profits and market share.

And it probably borders on corporate negligence to intentionally ignore the most popular platform for your product.

    Oh how cute...

Would be amusing if Google's only real competition came from a company that has locked its customers into a platform that it controls with an iron fist. Basically it sounds to me like Google are saying "look - if Apple can mount some competition by piggy-backing off a monopolistic computing platform then other companies can do it too!"...

I was looking for a post icon that shows Google and Apple's marriage, in fact a Google-Love and Google-Hate set of icons is long overdue!

    I don't get it.

The monopolies thing is all bollocks anyway. Just because Google are huge doesn't mean they're the only people who can serve ads.

    regulatory attention? Not likly

"Apple would never prevent AdMob-embedded applications - that would invite regulatory attention...."

You have to be kidding. Apple could not get "regulatory attention" in a million years. The fact that it's software policies for the iPhone & iPad are, and have been since inception, in clear violation of US Anti-Trust Law and it's not gotten any "regulatory attention" make that clear.
