back to article Associated Newspapers, GMG to pool newsrooms

In a sign of newspaper industry consolidation, rival publishing groups Associated and the Guardian Media Group are to join forces, sharing a common editorial production facility. Using the latest technology, a single team will produce stories for both groups flagship titles, the Daily Mail and the Guardian, in a process that …

    As a Guardian reader ...

can I say I'm outraged but in a conciliatory, lets "hug this out" kind of way?

In other news the Liver Building in Liverpool is being sold to the Americans. To quote the Liverpool Echo: "A series of emails and phone call transcripts leaked to the ECHO show how the pact between Liver Trust chief executive Joe King and New York business guru Anthony Prank was forged."

    Strange Days Indeed, most peculiar.

    The Day Today

Just as The Day Today presented an outlandish parodied version of future TV news broadcasting, which unfortunately now seems to be the template for current shows, I fear today's newspaper April Fool is tomorrow's tabloid reality.

I only have one thing to say.

Be careful what you make jokes about, someone in the dead tree side of the business might take you seriously in their endless quest to reduce costs at all, er, costs....

    Ah! 'Tis April 1st.

Anything that takes the piss out of the Fail and the Grauniad is fine by me. No need to do it just once a year either.

    WTF?

    Associated Puritanical plc?

    A P - April Fools? Maybe, perhaps.

Post script, paraphrase: Littlejohn. Big opinions, little john.

    But we know that.

    Happy April 1. Peace.

But is anyone else worried by Lester's ominous silence on this of all days?

    These fooloish things...

    ...Remind me it's April.

Would a combination of the Grauniad and Mail, specialising in Archbishop and catholic priest stories be called the Holy Grail?

    Welcome

    @Andrew

Good Work. I especially liked the computer generated proofs!

As TeeCee said, be careful what you joke about.

I, for one, welcome our common editorial producing, "new authoritarian", copy tailoring software overlords.

Enjoying El Reg's view on 1st April.

    not that far fetched

Seeing as some Indy staffers are already secretly camping in a well-known building in Derry Street.

Lovely mock ups though .... i've always though AO would fit in nicely at a tabloid ... especially a tabloid that uses long words like the two in this article

Truth is as strange as fiction?

Back in February it was announced that the GMG had sold the MEN (Manchester Evening News) and other regional titles to Trinity Mirror - and as a result the local Manchester TV station 'Channel M' has effectively closed down. ( "The Guardian Media Group has announced it has sold its prestigious Manchester Evening News title to Trinity Mirror, ending a joint history of more than a century.")

    So, not impossible to imagine?

    where's the iPad angle?

When I get my iPad, I'm so subscribing to both papers!

Most of the stuff 'news'papers publish is just copy-pasta'd from the news wires anyway. Simon Heffer got quite sniffy at the Telegraph's staff for even letting the agency typos through, let alone failing to adjust for the paper's house style. Shame he hasn't updated his style notes for a while. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/about-us/style-book/simon-heffers-style-notes/
