    Interesting...

    With these software and SpringSource's Hyperic, VMware can now manage and monitor both hardware and software. Nice move by EMC, leaving the software to the software company, this will be nice.

    Compare it to Oracle's Enterprise Manager + Sun Ops Center, HP's Insight + Microsoft's System Center and you get a trend... and the motivation behind EMC's move.

    Now, my question is, how far down the line can VMware continue to be agnostic?

    what about Control Center?

    ECC was one of the last products moved under the Ionix name, and the only one my company is using presently. It doesn't seem to have any of the synergy described in this article as the reasons for the asset transfer... so is ECC now just regular ol' ECC once again, and still an EMC property?

    It wouldn't make much sense to have a tool that reports and manages arrays be under the VMware flag instead of EMC. Although it does support non-EMC arrays.. hmm

    avoiding scrutiny

    is this all just a clever way to avoid scrutiny of the type that Microsoft and now Google have faced ... get too big in your business and you get the heavy hand of regulation vs "no no, we're really three or four seperate companies who just happen to own all the shares in the others"
