back to article Orange chief engulfed by Apple Tablet feeding frenzy

Is this a record? With just four innocuous words at the tail end of a French TV interview yesterday morning, France Telecom number two Stephane Richard triggered a blogosphere-fanboi Apple Tablet feeding frenzy. He had said the launch of the beast was imminent, claimed an excitable French source, while Techcrunch, confirming the …

    I *think* this is right

    It's something like:

Interviewer: According to the weekly Le Point, in a few days' time your partner Apple are going to launch a tablet

    Richard: Yes

    Interviewer: with a webcam.

    Richard: Yes

Interviewer: Will Orange users be able to have this too?

Richard: Of course. The will be able to benefit much more easily from the webcam. They will be able to send images in real time. We will, in some senses, modernise the way that the videophone has been used traditionally. Also, the size and quality of the network that we have put in place for French consumers helps with this.

    Or something like that...

    More Orange Tech Mess

Orange low level management have also forced Orange to admit they are making significant changes to tech support. Blabbermouth managers in Bristol have now forced the company to hold a big meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 13th) to let tech support staff know if they are being made redundant or not (money already says yes).

Orange has been increasing cheaper staff in Darlington and Plymouth and looks like dumping long serving staff in Bristol to save money and punish dissent. Already staff have endured over 48 hours of stress and rumours.

13:30 tomorrow keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter to see what happens.

For the Orange customers of course what this means is that for at least the next 3-6 months (if not a lot longer) technical support for Blackberry and mobile dongles is going to get a LOT worse.

The future is Shite The Future isn't Orange.

    Has everyone gone mad?

Er, this is NOT just commenting on the existence of a story:

"Interviewer: Will Orange users be able to have this too?

Richard: Of course. The will be able to benefit much more easily from the webcam. They will be able to send images in real time. We will, in some senses, modernise the way that the videophone has been used traditionally. "

Similarly, Orange do NOT seem to have denied the tablet is coming, merely denied that the comments represent an official company statement of confirmation, which of course they don't.
