back to article State attorney nabbed in car with stripper, Viagra and sex toys

A South Carolina deputy assistant attorney general who claimed he was on his lunch break, but was actually entertaining a stripper in his SUV, has been given his marching orders. Former state legislator Roland Corning, 66, was spotted on Monday by a police officer in "a secluded part" of a Columbia cemetery last Monday. …

    hedid not elaborate

"conflicting stories about what they were doing in the cemetery", although Wines "did not elaborate"

I suppose he just pointed to the girl and asked the copper "what do ya think?"

    WTF?

    I thought...

...the whole POINT of going into public service or politics was to have the opportunity to get caught with a stripper and a load of *ahem* accessories?

I feel sorry for the 18 years old striper

how desperate is she to not mind the company of a 66 years old lawyer at the cemetery?!

any way, if they both had their ID cards on them, the police would have been able to scan their cards from a distance and would have left them to their business without interrupting them. Another reason to convince people to get their ID cards....

"with the ID card, the police will not interrupt your *happy* time while you are outdoors"

    Stop

    Whadda problem?

So what if he was entertaining a lady of the night, I'm sure it would help to relieve the stresses he must've had at work (especially working with his missus), and thus he would be better at his job after a lunchtime workout.

I say carry on; the more the better!

    lunch break...

... Is getting up to this kind of thing a sackable offence in the US?

...isn't lunch time MY time, not work's time?

    You wot?

" A South Carolina deputy assistant attorney general who claimed he was on his lunch break, but was actually entertaining a stripper in his SUV "

You know, the two are not mutually exclusive. Maybe he was entertaining a stripper in his SUV in his lunch break. And I'm not sure if it's really his bosses' business what he does in his spare time. Given that they're legal eagles I'm guessing they know their rights, but I reckon he's got good grounds to claim he was done in as a personal grudge -- after all, it was a jealous missus what grassed him up.

    WTF?

    So it seems....

....that it's perfectly acceptable for a copper to leak information to the man's employer via his wife. If he was concerned should he not have enquired directly with the man's office in his official LEA capacity?

    Wait a minute...

Wasn't it the *coppers* wife who worked at the legal office, so Mr. Wines rang Mrs.Wines at work to see if this guy really was an assistant D.A? If that's the case, how did the big legal cheese find out about the actual nature of the reason for the call. i.e:

Officer Wines: "Oh hey honey, I've got a guy here claiming to be an assistant D.A. at your office, a Mr. Corning, is that right?"

Mrs Wines: "Yeh that's right, he works here."

Officer Wines: "Thanks honey, don't forget little timmy's soccer practice tonight."

Where and why the does the mention of an 18 y/o hooker, viagra and sex toys come into it?

    Bummer!

    Pint

    Not a bad choice

Platinum Plus is probably the classiest strip club in the area. Columbia is also a college town, so there is a large local population of young women with tuition expenses. I know at least one woman paying for her own post-graduate education with money she earned there. And she wasn't even one of the ones getting undressed!

So, if you're gonna get caught with a stripper in the car, at least have the decency to get caught with a *good looking* stripper, which is quite possibly the case here.

    Just following management example

Remember the public mess the Governor of SC got into a while back? One of the highest duties of leadership is to set an example. I think the state should make such "facilities" available to all state workers. It could even improve productivity -- less time spent on hypocrisy.

    WTF?

    And?

I don't see why this is a problem.

Two adults decided to be in a car together, in a cemetery, during one of their lunch hours.

Assuming they had sex: Two consenting adults had sex, in a cemetery, during one of their lunch hours.

What the hell kind of business is it of anyone's unless there are charges pending for: prostitution, solicitation, trespass, public indecency, rape, etc.?

Two people, having sex, is not against the law (whether they are each married or not). No other laws appear to have been broken because no charges have been filed. Thus, what the hell is this doing being reported at all?

And why are details like the contents of the car, true or not, being reported?

And why does it cost anyone their job?

Sue the hell out of the employers - you're two consenting adults choosing to have sex in the middle of a lunch break in a private location away from your place of employment. How is that even worth mentioning, let alone a sackable offence?

At worst, it's one of those "bringing disrepute" things, but I would think that sharing of data (illegally?) with random members of your family (whether they work at a particular institution or not) and/or publishing those details in the national press is somehow the driver behind such disrepute rather than someone having (possibly, allegedly) sex during their lunch hour.

  20. Graham Bartlett

    @ACs

How desperate is the stripper not to mind the company of a 66-year-old? As desperate as any prostitute, I guess. Need money, have decent body, are prepared to compromise principles (or don't mind in the first place) - fairly standard (if depressing) female story.

And the last one, I suspect the phone call went something more like:-

Officer Wines: "Oh hey honey, I've got a guy here claiming to be an assistant D.A. at your office, a Mr. Corning, is that right?"

Mrs Wines: "Yeh that's right, he works here."

Officer Wines: "OK, I just stopped him, and you'll *never* guess what I've found in his car..."

    To repeat from, oh...

a zillion other article's comments. Yes, you can be fired for having an affair on your lunch break. You can also be fired for looking at your boss funny. You can even be fired because today ends in y. Restrictions only apply on protected classes (i.e., race, religion, sex (no not that kind!)).

    Unhappy

    @mergendeiler: "Governor of SC" etc

Apples/oranges, or actually apples/frozen shrimp. A governor professes moral leadership and all that, and that one claimed to be walking in the USA bush (the "Appalachian trail") but turned out to be in Argentina. Very different bush.

This is a legal beagle, not an elected leader. (If it was the DA himself, comparison would be fair.)

Seems nothing illegal has happened (Viagra is prescription medicine, illegal to have; but a trifling offence) but cop decides on extra-judicial punishment (tell victim/perp's boss). There is no need to tell the offence if verifying job credentials; so it's obvious score-settling.

    Its a S. Carolina Thing...

It must be something in the water down there.

As for "it was my lunch hour" -- true, the problem is that what he was doing was probably illegal in his neck of the woods. Even if it was -- two consenting adults and so on -- then these legislators tend to be very hot on family values and morality issues so there's a hypocracy issue to explain.

I don't know why they bother. Motels are cheap enough.

    Bury this story.
