back to article Tories plan health record giveaway

The Tories are today releasing more details of their plan to get Google and Microsoft involved in holding medical records. The idea is that patients will be given some control over their own records, which could then be stored online. But the Tories seem to think that it would be a good idea to have a locally stored version …

Is there not a single party out there that has a fucking clue when it comes to IT?!

    MS sells 'Health vault'

Ms sold it's Health Vault to a consortium of health insurance companies today.

A spokesman for the consortium said "We see this as a valuable resource for income generation. From tomorrow, any doctor will be able to access patients records for a small fee."

"It will also put an end to distorted health insurance claims as we will know, for example that a patient has not fully disclosed that they attended a doctor for a common cold when they were aged 13. This will allow us to reduce overheads when checking claims benefiting both our customers and shareholders".

    Impossible?

I think it is a terrible idea

    That is all.

Does this control mean that I can alter, delete, and add records?

    WTF?

    Been here before?

Is this part of the same idea as The Grey Shagger's 'Public/Patient's etc. etc.Charter' cobblers?

Or is it part of the decades-old plan to link up the health services then 'lose' the data as has become the done thing recently?

    Google Medic

So will you need a Google account to get access and it then appears as another of their apps? Perhaps you could have your Android phone hooked up to a heart monitor also to feed back information!

And all this information stuck in the cloud in America for unscrupulous US pharmaceutical companies to harvest. Hmm.

Mind you, I'd have more trust in Google / Microsoft than some half baked government IT system.

    Bias?

Why is this not on the main page? When the government make a release THIS dumb its well up there on your home page - and rightly so. These guys are likely to be the next set of muppets in charge and by the looks of this will have even less of a clue.

I mean how on earth do they have no one competent enough to spot the gigantic idiocy, and effective u-turn, this represents.

What sits behind this web-interface... why some sort of database one might suppose...

    Memo to the Eton Rifles

Remember, chaps, you're not supposed to screw up your grand ideals and degnerate to a level lower than the last government until you've been in office for at *least* a term and a half. Going into the campaign with a manifesto loaded with fail puts us straight back in the 60s/70s, when both main parties were widely regarded as completely useless and the choice was between the lesser of two evils.

    Excellant idea

    Just needs some care,

An enforceable legal position whereby under no circumstances can medical information be harvested by a foreign govt or any entity not directly involved in treating the person without their informed consent, this includes anonymised data.

Access permission only given by the person unless they are unable to give it.

All entries must be attributed and attribution must be tamper proof.

Patient can make entries and may delete entries but the fact of the deletion, the date and identity of the original entry must be retained.
