back to article Microsoft distances self from IE 8 puke ads

Apparently, puking about porn was too much for Microsoft's delicate sensibilities on Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has distanced itself from an ad fronted by TV's ex-Superman Dean Cain that featured a woman vomiting over her partner after she discovered the porn stash hidden in his browser history. The ad has been pulled …

    my reaction, too

I don't know if finding porn in the browser history is needed, just seeing windows is enough to make me projectile vomit. Can you add a barf icon to the comment icons below ?

    Download IE8.....

    ....and you too can puke!

    Real Reason

It reminded people of Windows ME

    Fooking hell

I am all for cheap cheap laughs but that was just uncomfortably unfunny. It's like watching poor old Tommy Cooper's last performance when you know what happens.

    I'd...

just hurl seeing that IE was installed; pr0n might just alleviate the symptoms.

Are you sure it's the pr0n?

She pukes very, very fast, it's quite incompatible with history browsing... my guess would be, she noticed the laptop runs Windows (maybe even Vista!). That's much, much more disgusting than any pr0n stash! Especially so close to breakfast. Poor woman.

    Mixed message

In reality she is throwing up in reaction to actually using IE 8

Family packs are the way to go!

Family packs are what keeps families honest and keeps piracy at bay.

Using Gestapo like tactics just means you do not trust your own customers.

    Ubuntu also...

Offers a family pack, you pay $0 now, download or request a free CD and you can install it on as many devices as you can. Added bonus that you get the family pack versions of every useful productivity suite for the office, studio or home.

Fair's fair The Register, give prices to FOSS alternatives when you do these sorts of comparisons.

Will Microsoft ever learn how to do advertising without shooting itself in the foot?

No title for me, thank you

Apart from being zero-funny, it's also not realistic at all. I doubt even 2 girls 1 cup can make anyone puke, let alone so quickly.

And how particularly unfunny and uncreative if you have already seen Team America's vomit scene

    More Microsoft puke ads!!

MS ads have been total-fail until now (Seinfeld and Billy Goats Fluff, anyone?), but this instant-chunder spectacular had me spewing Weetabix out of my nostrils.

Beer-icon because let's face it: swilling the stuff causes more geysers of vomit than any browser-experience.

"Fair's fair The Register, give prices to FOSS alternatives when you do these sorts of comparisons."

Why bother with the extra typing? Some Linux gimp will always chip in anyway so it's be redundant. Here, have a mask and ball gag.

    @Charles Manning

    Sure. They're called adjectival nouns.

    Eg:

    (i) the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

    (ii) the obscenely wealthy.

    etc.

    Re: piece of creative

It's just that their autocorrect replaces 'shit' with 'creative'.

    @Martin Owens

Maybe so, but unfortunately you get an OS that if it works out the box, great... but in my experience, it rarely does - WiFi is soooooooooooo much fun.

And this is where it all goes wrong.... people can't run iTunes for their iPods or iPhones (which before anyone jumps on the bandwagon are the most popular devices out there so people do want to be able to use them)

Windows need to jump on the Family Pack - OS X offers great savings in this manner... it also has the benefits of being the best OS available at the moment in terms of functionality, ease of use, stability etc.... it may not lead in all of them, but across the board it really is better - sorry....

    I liked it

I have to say although gross it is rather amusing, and I like the bravery of not shying away from what men REALLY use the Internet for! :-D

Perhaps this should be run alongside clips of Avenue Q's "The Internet Is For Porn"? ;-)

  21. Psymon

The vomit made me grin but...

What really made me laugh was the last line "never be suprised by hairy **** ******* **** *****.com again!"

MS have on occasion produced the odd gem when it comes to ads.

Who can remember this Xbox ad?

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4202124639682830443

This too got pulled due to the weak of character complaining that it was to much for their infirm minds

    Blargh

The horrendous 'I am a PC and I'm only 8' adverts make me puke on a regular basis.

Especially the one with the girl making a slideshow of her sister. Nauseating.
