back to article EC calls for tech help on carbon targets

The European Commission is calling on the technology and communications industry to not only sort out its own energy use and carbon emissions but also help the rest of industry make cuts too. Greater use of technology will help the European Union achieve its targets for cutting carbon emissions by 20 per cent by 2020 and …

    EuroCrat double speak.

"The ICT industry itself contributes two per cent to Europe's total carbon emissions"

So if this sector drops it's emission by 20% that means a whole 0.4% of Europe's carbon emissions are saved. That certainly will be inspiring to the Iron, power, and transportation industries.

Carbon Fear Mongerers are on Crack!

Carbon is the element of life!

CO2 causes the plants to grow faster, which will increase the production of biomass for more energy, and produce greater food supplies for us!

The carbon, which the fuel is based upon, will not be depleted, merely converted to another form which can be easily harvested using natural means.

Leaving Carbon sequestered in the ground is pointless, if what Scientists say is correct: they used to be plants above the ground at some point in time!

Less meat could cut climate costs by $20 trillion (!) until 2050

Less meat could cut climate costs by $20 trillion (!) until 2050!!

These are dramatic figures: If we do not reduce our meat consumption, it will cost us US$ 20 000 000 000 000 by the year 2050!! That's the conclusion of a study by Elke Stehfest and colleagues of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, see http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn16573-eating-less-meat-could-cu...

$20 trillion or $20000 billion, this is the share of the costs of fighting the consequences of global warming that we could save by reducing meat consumption globally - or pay the price! For a purely plant based diet the savings go up to approx. $32 trillion! With the current economic crisis in mind, we simply cannot afford to ignore this situation. Let's contribute to a change in our diets, away from animal products, away from livestock, let's explore alternatives (vegetarian meat, in-vitro-meat, alternatives to egg-products, …)!
