back to article Robert Llewellyn drops Red Dwarf clanger

Digital channel Dave appears to have canned a planned part of its Easter Red Dwarf celebration, if a message posted on Twitter by cast member Robert Llewellyn is anything to go by. To recap, Dave recently announced that it would on Friday 10 April broadcast the first installment of Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, followed by the …

    good

the unplugged ep sounded like a filmed rehearsal anyway

    Good

It sounded like a *terrible* idea, like something you'd see at a bad Red Dwarf convention.

I believe that Sophie Winkleman is rather attractive. Of course, Sophie is not quite as nice as Miss Bee (who is ace!).

    Hope she's not Kochanski...

Don' get me wrong, from what I've seen she's a good actress, and I like Big Suze, but there's only one Kochanski and that's Ms Grogan.

    Don't care

not going to watch it anyway, it's bound to be crap.

This is necrophilia - taking something that's been dead for years and screwing it up.

What will they do next, remake the A-Team or something?

    Alert

    in other words..

    its just a scripted show.

advertised as one thing changed [intentionally?] at the last minute and delivered as another..

In the same way internet supermarkets swap your items when the similar items are near sell by..

    Twitspeed

Hmm - so this pops up on El Reg 2 days after the event? I hereby declare a new standard measure, Twitspeed (T), defined as the relative difference in time between something appearing on Twitter and it being picked up by 'traditional' media (sorry, not meant to be a slur on good old El Reg).

El Reg currently stands at T+2 - or T++ for the code geeks out there.

Mine's the one with the tenuous connection dangling out the pocket.

I can't wait till whatever it is they make comes to the US market, will probably have to wait a year after its original broadcast, as usual :P

should have stopped at series 6

    see above title...

having a ship full of people *TOTALLY* killed all the dynamics of the series...

i think this sums it up nicely

    Holly: They're dead, Dave.

    Lister: Who is?

    Holly: Everybody, Dave.

    and leave it that way.

    Wouldn't that be T+1?

    Surely you mean (T++)++;

    Big time Dave

All credit to them for trying to make something new rather that take credit for all the repeats they show.

After watching a few old ones I find that its actually a bit crap...but will obviously appeal to all the IT weirdos who have no taste. (You know the ones that think Doctor Who is good...)

And it says "off by one" on the back.

While agreeing with the sentiment, strictly there were two; remember

    Chloe Annett?

Reluctantly I beg to differ. I loved Red Dwarf, but like many

successful shows, it ran for one series too many. The last series was

    below par.

    Err good I think?

Nothing good could have come of this anyway. I have no faith whatsoever in this bunch coming up with anything remotely funny on the spur of the moment. At best it would probably feature some crude attempt at slapstick and a bunch of shit jokes about body parts or smells.

Seems all TV is on the cheap these days, and if they can't even be bothered to get some decent script writers and involve a bit of technology then don't waste the airtime. Although I suppose when you compare it to most of the drivel the networks shove out, even an unscripted and unplugged version of Red Dwarf would look good.

Should have called it a day after series 6

Red dwarf is great and all, but series 7 was awful and 8 only slightly better. Series 6 finished in such style ..... they should have left it at that.

I guess that Rimmer needs a pension topup

    Sadly

Red Dwarf has never been like dogs milk. You can tell when it's gone off.

For me, the first two series were near flawless, every episode was excellent. The next four were patchy, but turned out some really superb episodes, along with a few "meh" ones, especially where Rimmer faded out. The last two were weak, could have been done better, and threw away too much of the premise of the original.

Still, I'll hope for the best for the new episodes.

And yes, Grogan is Kochanski. (Sorry Chloe, not your fault, you landed a duff one there, it's like trying to play Dracula after Christopher Lee - you can try, but you'll never quite get it)

    There is hope

There's no reason to write the red dwarf series off yet. They're trying to do the right thing - for example, there no canned laughter in these specials - and to be fair, they're all writing original scripts for it (no copies of the dreadful "finishing" series books with the GELFs and all).

Hopefully they'll realise that this is their swansong and that if they get it wrong they genuinely will kill their own legacy.
