back to article Stop us if you've heard it before but... Africa's internet management body mired again by corruption allegations

The organization responsible for allocating internet addresses across Africa has yet again become embroiled in scandal, this time over long-standing claims of corruption. A founding employee of Afrinic resigned soon after allegations emerged that millions of its valuable public-facing IPv4 addresses had been stolen and sold or …

A right nest of ugly crabs

It would seem that Afrinic resembles a condensed form of everything wrong with people these days. Blatant racism between people of different colors, origins, and now even language.

A new CEO is not going to be enough, everyone should be fired and replaced by people who can actually work together.

“I urge the community to think beyond the sensation and let us see how to help and empower the people doing useful work for Africa,”

With customary aspirational words like that to persuade people not to dwell in negativity and jealousy of the great ones, Mr. Folayan always has a place here or in America as government spokesman should his present job tire of him.

"Africa's internet management body mired again by corruption allegations"

Remove Africa and I've heard it before. Then remove internet and I've still heard it before.

The idea of service to a cause higher than one's wallet is alien to modern society.

    Corruption?

Well, rather a bare necessity. You see, Afrinic execs are constantly ripped off trying to help out some Nigerian prince-in-exile or stranded Nigerian cosmonaut or whatever (the guy is a compatriot, so he wouldn't lie, right?). The salary just doesn't cover that. Blame the government for insufficient wages for execs.

    Its Africa

Saying there's corruption is like saying the sun rises in the east. What would be a shock would be if there wasn't any in this organisation.

      Re: Its Africa

Africa is a continent, not a country. To assume things are the same from South Africa to Egypt, from Mauritania to Tanzania is like assuming things are the same from Spain to Finland, from Greece to Ireland.

      That is, they are not.

Some governments are corrupt, some are not. Some people are corrupt, some are not. That says nothing about the governments or peoples of their neighbours.

Do not tar all with the same brush.
