back to article Stop us if you've heard this one: Facebook apologizes for bug leaking private photos

Facebook on Friday apologized for a bug that may have exposed exposed private photos to third-party apps for the 12 day period from September 13 to September 25, 2018. "We're sorry this happened," said Tomer Bar, Facebook engineering director, in a blog post intended for developers, noting that as many as 6.8 million users and …

I wonder how much they were paid

For this "accident"? A third party willing to give them a big wad of cash would probably need a couple weeks to download all the billions of private photos off Facebook.

Yeah, this is how low my opinion of them has sunk.

"They 'trust me'. Dumb fucks." Really, that comment says everything you need to know about Facebook and privacy. The only reasons they care about data leaks are the risk of fines and the money foregone when it gets out of their clutches. You shouldn't have let your opinion of them get as high as you did.

Er, since when have 'we' been responsible for your mistakes?

    Fuck off, idiot.

"we realized it was an opportunity to invest even more heavily in privacy"

Oh, you mean as in investing $20 instead of just $.02 ?

Great idea. Keep it up and one day, in the next millennium, you just might get there.

      Ah yes, spin, spin, spin.

A more accurate statement would have been: "we were annoyed we were going to have to invest some profit in privacy just to shut the GDPR investigators up".

"improved privacy experiences for everyone on Facebook"

Don't stop until it matches the privacy experiences for everyone OFF Facebook.

    WTF?

"Data gathering biz still having trouble keeping data secure"

"Faecesbook" and "keeping data secure" in the same sentence?

That's an oxymoron! Their whole business model depends on your data NOT being secure

FB: What in the world do you mean by "your data"?

I deleted my login a few months ago, but I wonder how long they hold on to the actual data.

    Images, posts, personal information.

    Come on the GDPR

Facebook could face billion dollar fine for data breaches

Unless it's a cunning plan by the Irish data protection commission to get in there first and the find that Facebook deserve a slap on the wrist. Who can tell these days?

"We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can't then we don't deserve to serve you."

But you don't serve "us". You serve the advertisers. "We're" your data cattle. Why would you care about "us" any more than a rancher cares about Bull 2018-2-7-94 being rendered into beef?
