    I don't get it.

    Why do I need this?

      If you have services set up in K8s, Istio helps you manage the traffic between services. So for instance, lets say you keep your secret keys in one K8s pod and you want to restrict other pods from having access to that key pod, you can use Istio to restrict access. Istio also lets you encrypt the traffic between your services therefore making your setup more secure.
