    They should be barred from working with Children

    Anyone that loses their laptops clearly has a higher probability of losing children. There are some risks I AM NOT PREPARED TO TAKE, so those people should be barred from working with children.

    It is important that we protect the most vulnerable people in society, so this is an obvious way of helping.

    Or do you hate children?

    Average cost of 'lost' laptops = £683 each

    Total amount spent on securing all H.O. computers = £0.01 (that's "tuppence ha'penny" in today's money)

    Total amount spent on IT *security* consultants = Untold Billions

    I assume they have several thousand laptops. To only have a few nicked / lost is actually a bloody good ratio.

    Yup, jump on their back - the only reason that you are doing so is because the Gov HAS to divulge the facts... It would be a different thing if we had ALL Bizs divulge such stats. I think you'll find the results will be very interesting :o) Working in the private sector for over a decade, I can tell you that laptops go missing regularly, without a care for the info on them, or how much they cost.. At least in the Gov, they are actively pursing to stem the loss.
