Is there anything that is secure anymore?
Maybe there never was.
Telegram has fixed a security flaw in its desktop app that hackers spent several months exploiting to install remote-control malware and cryptocurrency miners on vulnerable Windows PCs. The programming cockup was spotted by researchers at Kaspersky in October. It is believed miscreants have been leveraging the bug since at …
Maybe . . . or maybe this has just patched a hole the NSA knew about and were using themselves.
In the past, Amber Rudd and her ilk have named Telegram and Whatsapp as two applications that use end to end encryption that are allowing horrible murderers/paedophiles/terrorists/tax evaders/[insert bogeyman] to hide their traffic.
They never mention, for example, Signal.
Now what if the reason these apps are named is to encourage the bogeymen to use them instead of stronger apps?
What if Kaspersky have found one of the NSA routes in?
Sweet revenge for the ban, and maybe one less way to be snooped on.
Still prefer Signal though.
Welcome to the internet of cesspit! The worse part is, if only hackers put 1% of their talents towards something positive. If only the ruling class had the chops to understand what's going on before we sink into a Blackhole.
Connecting more services to the net, requiring more digital footprints just to function as before, isn't the right-call at the moment. Instead we should be pushing the reset button on tech. Pausing for thought! Overall, we need far more robust models going forward - for everything!
But look who we're stuck with. Regulators who don't get it. Politicians who are too busy doing favors for pals to see the dangers. Those responsible for the looming privacy/security apocalypse (deep hacks / leaks / breaches), will be gone with golden parachutes before shit hits!

What makes you think this isn't happening? There's lots of creative and brilliant minds out there working for "something positive". You just never hear of the person who wrote the code that lets you use assistive technologies to log into your Mac (because it's not "One more thing"), or who's letting the JS doing protein folding instead of coin mining.
