this is what happens when you get ACTIVISTS in positions of power as attorneys general and in other investigative positions of authority. That and the occasional nod/wink for their fellow 'lodge members', the country club of "the elite" Washington D.C. insiders, aka "the establishment".
Mrs. Clinton has YET to get ANY kind of sentencing for the list o' crimes that she's committed [obstruction of justice and mishandling of classified material being the two obvious ones].
So yeah, it's the law that applies to everyone equally, except that SOME people (certain Demo-rats, certain 'Dynasty' families) are MORE equal than the rest of us...
Weiner is nothing more than a scapegoat, whose crimes are just too heinous to excuse and cover up. That and it gives Huma a chance to "be free" to be with Mrs. Clinton...

Why does it take the author fourteen paragraphs to get around to mentioning that Weiner is not just a "politician" but a real live Democrat? Is this fact so very unimportant? Or, did the author just want to avoid that pang of soul pain that comes with admitting there are reprehensible people within one's own ideological ranks? It's for sure that Republicans don't enjoy the same 'gently gently' treatment from most of the El Reg authors. But that's okay, everyone 'knows' those people are evil and don't deserve fair treatment, right?
I know, plenty will claim I'm full of it here, but I suggest those people reserve judgment and wait for the next article denouncing a Republican that's said to have done something bad. I guarantee the R-word will be either in the title, or failing that, in the first sentence. At least that's how it's generally worked for the past several decades thruout most of the media. In fact it's so prevalent a behavior that conservatives in the US have made a sort of game out of it, called by various names, but all of which mean basically "Spot the magic word."
And fourteen paragraphs is quite a respectable score! A number that high is usually only beaten by a Complete Omission, but CO's actually happen fairly often too. ;-/

Some of that is true, but not the part about the media being on the right. That's a laughable stance for you to take after witnessing the "Great Unhinging" of nearly all media persons after Donald Trump won the White House, and after that Brexit thing too. Their leftist bias is fully out in the open now, on display for all to see. But it's that very bias, no longer well hidden, that led to their favored party's ruination the last few years. I find it hard to reconcile that with the likes of the newspaper industry in the UK which, during the 80's thrived on scandal and getting the 'freshest' page 3 models because 'that's what sold papers', and a couple of decades later fed the pedo paranoia (and any other ) because 'that's what sells papers'.
Nothing left (or really right) abut that lot, just (self)centre...

I remember one week, the Sport (it's a daily printed publication in tabloid format, but calling it a newspaper is generous) ran a series of "they're coming" articles on a particularly pneumatic 15 year old girl; she was basically nude in these pics, but with boobs obscured by chairs etc. This all lead to her "unveiling" for her 16th birthday in the Sunday Sport

Reminds of Brass Eye, which was created with pretty much the sole purpose of satirising media outrage, and created a huge amount of it particularly about the special episode in 2001 about paedophilia. The Daily Star roundly condemned the episode, with the adjacent article being about how Charlotte Church looked at then age 15 and the Mail's response was on the same page as pictures of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie who were 13 and 11 at the time

Perhaps the biggest difference in the UK is we decide if an individual is a c*nt BEFORE we ask which party they represent.
For example....
May (Weak, weak, weak....), Cameron (well meaning but crippled by his own background and sense of infallible righteousness), Corbyn (I lived in the seventies and sure don't want to go back to that lost decade), Farage (so far up his own ar*e it's amazing he can even talk), Thornberry (the rise of the superior liberal...it's tough to be one of the people when you're as self lovingly aloof as she is), Davis (there should be an IQ test before you're allowed in Cabinet), Johnson (who I'm amazed finds time to be Foreign Secretary with all the extra marital shagging he undertakes) are all in the appropriate group.

No, in Britain we have the Conservative party, who are traditionally thought of as right leaning, the Labour party, who are left leaning, and the Liberal Democrats, who are inconsequential but probably centerist.
If it does, I'd be willing to bet that the same effect applies there too, since the media there seems to be quite similar as in the US.
It depends on which bit of the British media you want to look at. The BBC is almost always toeing the party line of the establishment, which may or may not echo the views of the current ruling party.
The Times, once considered to be the most rigorously balanced newspaper, is now owned by Murdoch, along with the Sunday Times and The Sun, and they are all broadly supportive of the Conservative viewpoint.
The Daily Mail, the Independant, and The Telegraph are strong Conservative supporters. The Daily Mirror and The Guardian are strong supporters of a Labour view.
So by far the majority of British newspapers are right-wing.

The comments are all things you have read before. The difference is who is saying them and why. This time it is the pinko lefty commies saying "Lock him up", despite all the clear and reasoned arguments from the Trump apologists. The other big difference is the democrits do not actually want him locked up. They are just saying that for a laugh, and to prompt yet another post of excuses from a Repitle. Even after 100 posts (I have not read all the comments) the Reptiles have not worked out that repeating what the Decepticons said last year is causing howls of laughter.
You are welcome to try and explain what is going on to your fellow Reprobates, but I find that an up hill struggle. For my credulous deluded snow flake comrades, I recommend reclassifying the contents of these emails as top secret, dragging Kushner in for a bunch of of congressional hearings and having the FBI investigate the lies on each of his security clearance applications forms before yelling "Jail Jared!"

Maybe because it makes Zero difference to most of the planet if the "Moar Biggly War"-party or "Many Little Wars for Really Good Reasons"-party happens to be the ones bringing ruin to the world at any specific moment? Both parties are crazy and useless!
The "news Interest", rather enjoyment, from the spectators point of view is when someone like Weiner gets nailed or something unpleasant leaks - its like switching on the light in a dodgy kebab shop and all the racks and cockroaches are scurrying about for a while in an entertaining manner and maybe one gets to stomp one or two which is sorta satisfying although one knows that there are thousands of the buggers behind the furniture.

In US prisons there is a pecking order of the cons. Weiner is near the of the pecking and will likely need to isolated from other prisoners to avoid being Bubba's sex slave. Most cons despise those who sexually harass or worse children and a 15 year old is considered a child.
