      Don't worry, they never will. They're careful just to talk about the "British space programme" or "British space business" as they know that any form of words that excluded Sky and its TV service would make the magnitude of remaining British space efforts look a bit ridiculous.

        Whom and/or what do you imagine be realising and leading British Cyber Space Exploration Programmes? Traditional established intelligence services [MI5/MI6/GCHQ] or something else highly unconventional and designedly irregular in order to provide all necessary safe security requirements?

        Would you even believe and accept that such a leading programme exists and is flourishing beyond all expectation?

        Do you think UKGBNI Special Forces are evolved and involved? Or is it more a Renegade Rogue Mercenary Operational Field?

    "Our Innovation Team is dedicated to facilitating developments in the aviation industry that will be valuable to UK citizens; securing safe outcomes is the primary objective of the team's work. Currently the team is focussed on three main projects – a UK commercial spaceflight capability, exploitation of unmanned aircraft technology and aviation defences against evolving cyber threats," a CAA spokesman told us.

    Experience in "aviation or other safety-critical industry" and "good commercial awareness" are advantages, naturally. So what does the post actually entail?

    Two things spring to mind; the first is to shout House very loudly and the second is to suspect that another requirement will be the successful candidate will be able to work in a buzzword - rich environment without laughing.

    "safe deployment in the UK of new technologies or business models", citing space flight, unmanned aircraft and cybersecurity as priorities."

    Those main priorities sound disparate enough to require three separate roles. I'd be surprised if there's anyone qualified enough in all three fields to make it all one role. I suspect (ha!) that what they really want is a mid-level marketing manager, possibly with an Oxford PPE to head up a team with some people who might actually know what they are doing. (ha!). What's David Cameron doing these days?

    On a related note, I caught up with Prof Brian Cox's latest series last night, and was a little disappointed there was no mention of Skylon. I would hope a home grown system would feature if we ever developed a Space Port. Not that it's a particularly good idea, given our latitude.
