The history of censorship has been dominated by influential minorities who imposed their viewpoint on the rest of a populace. Even in a representative democracy - the people setting the legal agenda are usually very authoritarian in their outlook. It is not often that a judge will override the establishment's censorship. When that happens the law is likely to be amended to remove the "loophole".
Perhaps some context is needed for you less-informed IT folks. You are opposed to censorship, and I appreciate that. What I said was, I'd like to see the Stormer gone. "A shame to do it this way," but gone.
Someone tried to imply equality between a Nazi site and the Daily Mail and BBC. Sorry pal, but this is ignorance of the highest order. If you call yourself a Nazi, name your site after a Nazi newspaper and espouse Nazi ideology, you ARE a Nazi. What is a Nazi? Is that the same as a Conservative Republican? Far from it. Even the Conservative Republican site RedState.com was sickened by Trump's tiny-handed response to Charlottesville, where people carried Nazi flags through the street. Free speech? Okay, fine. But they are identifying with a regime that resulted in millions of deaths, simply because the victims were Jews, "Gypsies," gay, or mentally handicapped. Did the Nazi regime Stormer is channeling believe in freedom of speech?
Anyone who wouldn't be happy to see all Nazi-advocating sites and newspapers disappear is not paying attention. You sure don't know history. Yeah, DDOSing Dreamhost is not the way, but making the alt-right, which is happy to lie down with and collaborate with Nazis ("unite the Right?" Bullshit. Unite the racists -- pay attention to what they say and with whom they associate) struggle to find platforms to espouse their inhuman crap is simply humane.
Hating what Nazis stood/stand for has nothing to do with being a bleeding-heart liberal. I've been a registered Republican and gun owner probably longer than most of you who downvoted me have been alive. Along the line it's been my misfortune to encounter a few neo-Nazis and have read their propaganda, going back to the 1960s. These people are a threat to the ideals of the American republic. In Europe, their fellow travelers have acted out on their angry impulses and innocent lives were lost. So, yes, seeing their means of propagating their hatred driven off the Web is a consummation devoutly to be wished. If you espouse Nazi ideology, you are squaring for a fight. Poor widdle Nazis, they got their fight, and they're losing. Hurrah!

I'm not the one missing the point. Did I advocate for censorship? I said seeing the Daily Stormer go away would be a good thing. I also said it was unfortunate it took DDoS to get them. But if you're going to hate on people, you should expect some people to hate back on you. Tolerance is nice around the dinner table. Nazis have drawn their own line, and crossed it: Get rid of Jews, blacks, whatever else THEY HATE; it isn't the antifa who are drawing the line.
If you seriously think a comedian would have stopped the NSDAP in the 1930s, I want some of what you're smoking. Charlie Chaplin tried that. But I think the RAF, Eighth Airforce and the Allied infantry played a slightly greater role in toppling the Nazis. There are, perhaps, other ways of which you might approve:

People who set themselves up as vigilantes are motivated by the role of being a vigilante. The validity of their targets are secondary to their feeling of increased self-worth by having apparent power over others.

I agree with you, it's getting silly because I don't think people have rationally sat down and looked the argument they are making.
It's the I want to ban x part that makes me very uncomfortable because x becomes y which then becomes z and then were all living in a world where opinions are banned and freedom of expression gets you arrested.
There are groups that produce articles and websites that I do not wish to read and will never read because they are far away from my own view of what is right and wrong but enough about the Daily Mail, everyone needs to chill.

I was talking to an American friend about this, and what surprised me was their lack of anti-hate-speech laws. I was arguing the point that there are already laws stopping Nazis telling whole races to die, but apparently there aren't over there. There certainly are here. Germany definitely has some, and the UK does too.
While everyone is looking at the dullards who make-up the alt-right, what is being missed is the very dangerous antifa group. The alt-right, neo-nazi-skinhead-whatevers, are loose, basically unorganized, financially-impoverished groups who like to make noise to get attention. Occasionally, a lone-wolf loon will engage in violence. I don't think there has ever been evidence of organized violence by them.
The antifa's and other such leftist groups, otoh, seem to have a well-funded, inner core that plans violent activities. They instagate violence with any rightwing group who tries to meet, whether it's the alt-right meeting to praise the US Confederacy, or simply conservatives wanting to hear the President speak. Much of their violence is skantly reported by the MSM. It is they who destroy monuments, cars, and businesses. What is also not well-reported is that ads are being placed on on-line services seeking to PAY people to join their protest in cities just prior to such activities. They are paying thugs to be thugs.
The antifa is the biggest fascist group in the US, and it is seeking to silence all who would oppose them. This is the group that needs watching, and somehow de-funded.
When you consider this, it makes perfect sense why these DDoS are being done by the left. They have the organization and money to pay people to engage in that activity, if not the skills, themselves. The alt-right are driving around, flying a bit of colored-cloth.

Launching DDoS attacks takes no real technical skill or investment... or organisation. The majority of DDoS attack traffic is launched by individual computer gamers against other individual gamers using tools marketed to them on easily located gaming/hacking forums. Any teen can do it. A whip round your local pub will likely get you enough to launch a week's worth of DDoS at a target of your choice. Alternatively a round of drinks.
Perhaps the real risk here is societies that give young people disposable income sufficient to launch DDoS attacks against people or organisations they don't like but denies them the legal right to spend it buying rounds for their mates?
the very real possibility that antifa and similar are the same sort that I recall from anti-war rallies in the 1970s, infiltrators from the very groups they are claiming to be opposing. You know, that somewhat suspiciously well-groomed young man who throws the first bottle and is grabbed by the police, but somehow never turns up in jail with the rest of you.

(Yeah, fun times. A housemate, a bit of a dick but not a violent sort, was commanded by an officer to drop a water-balloon he was holding. When he did, he was arrested for assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon and destruction of evidence - the balloon. Meanwhile, those guys who just showed up in the neighborhood and were urging all and sundry to join their rock-throwing were, as I said, suspiciously absent from any punishment)
Actually my site is generally politicized, there are steadily small amateur attacks, which even don't overload server until there is another post that nobody likes. After another attack I connected to Stormwall. Now attacks are mainly in comments. Why not to think about protection right away? I understood long time ago that the hotter the site the more support and protection it needs, and the dream host just got caught in crossfire (as well as a huge number of ordinary users).
