Er, Android is Linux-for-mobile-devices and I don't think people have lost interest in that. All that has happened is that people have lost interest in Samsung's version of Linux as opposed to Google's version of Linux.
Samsung's idea for Tizen was to fill the perceived gap in the market between Android smart phones and feature phones with something which took fewer resources. The problem is that Android smart phones have gotten so cheap that the gap has pretty much disappeared, leaving Tizen as a solution looking for a problem.
