back to article Alaska dentist 'pulled out patient's tooth while riding a hoverboard'

A dentist in Alaska has been accused of performing a tooth extraction while riding a hoverboard. Dr Seth Lookhart, 31, was hit with the claim by US state officials this week in the Alaska District Court, Third Judicial District at Anchorage, along with more than a dozen charges related to his operation of a clinic in Anchorage …

    One more thing...

And finally, the most heinous of crimes that a dentist can commit with their clothes on; having outdated and mangled magazines in the waiting room!

"I thought we got that Dr Mengala?"

"Yeah, but this is his cousin's nephew. So, there you go."

Even people associated with weird 1970s dental-themed pornography find this guy a bit distasteful. He could have at least classed things up and used a mini Segway.

If, for some bizarre reason, I need to know why Cathy is leaving Eastenders (the 1998 exit), or get dieting tips off Jade Goody, I am comforted by knowing that I can book a dental appointment to find the answers.

My dentist has current motorcycle magazines in his waiting room. But his surgery is managed so efficient that there is barely any waiting time, so I only ever get to skim them and read the cartoon on the last page.

After the oral arguments, I guess he's finding out that ...

... the law isn't completely toothless. It must bite to be him, he can't just brush it off.

1 charge of theft - is that for the patient's dignity?

How about the dentist billing the wrong insurance company, and when they complained (2 years later) trying to collect from the ex patient for their mistake. After he had already fixed the procedure they messed up (elsewhere) which lost him a tooth, a lot of pain, and a great deal of cash.

As far as I know everyone was dressed, but that doesn't mean they didn't want to screw me...

    Meh

    My takeaway from this..

..is wondering what the original crime or action was in Alaska that brought about the need for a law to be passed prohibiting "unlawful dental acts." ??

      Re: My takeaway from this..

Or, indeed, specifying that dental surgery performed while riding on a hoverboard comes into the 'unlawful' category. I guess it's nice that a law covers such eventuality but you've got to wonder why.

Just guessing, but my first thought was that it's not so much "riding a hoverboard" as "filming and sharing the video" that's the real crime here.

Looking at the complaint, it seems that the actual crime was "unnecessarily sedating the patient and billing Medicaid for it". Trust Alaska to reduce the whole thing to "unlawful billing". Presumably if you want to play silly buggers with a patient in this way, sedation becomes... more desirable.

        Re: My takeaway from this..

I assume that it's unlawful if they're doing anything that jeopardises the patients safety. You wouldn't want your dentist working while on stilts, or doing it blindfolded.

    What's Surprising?

Is that he didn't charge her extra for the privilege of a new type of treatment...

Also, no thought to giving this guy a drug or psycho test?

And no one made sure his real name isn't Orin Scrivello!

Facepalm as he looks like he just found out this is his dentist, while in the chair!

"Hoverboard dentist" sounds lame by comparison.

    enough jokes

This alleged act was totally reckless. The hover board could have caught fire. What next? Appointment reminders on a note 7?

    Unlawful dental acts?

Wow, it's like he was trying to get caught. The is his dental office at the corner of reckless and stupid?

P.S. This is exactly why I drive half-way across town to go to the Dentist. Once you find a good one, never change.
