back to article NSA hacking chief's mission impossible: Advising White House on cybersecurity

NSA hacking crew bossman Rob Joyce is set to join US President Donald Trump's National Security Council as a cybersecurity adviser. Joyce headed up the NSA's Tailored Access Operations division, the spy agency's elite computer exploitation squad. Whispers have been sloshing around since the weekend that Joyce was tapped to …

    WTF?

Could be good, could be bad...

Does Joyce come to the NSC as someone who is aware of how vulnerable networks are, and he wants to advise the White House to do something about it? Or does he come as someone who wants to enshrine the hoarding and search for new vulnerabilities, regardless of the cost to the average citizens he is supposed to work for?

    Time will tell.

      Pournelle's law.

There are those who goal is to carry out the stated goals of the organization and there are those whose goal is to expand the organization, regardless of its goals.

Let's see which of these he is.

Psychological profiling can take place in many guises. Who is worried about privacy, pop along to the NSA who will supply you fake security advice.

Its what you dont know that you should be scared of, but when your thoughts are controlled by the narrative from such places as this or other so called MSM outlets, you can get away with murder if you are in the club. In the meantime let the war of ideologies continue, but you have to pick an ideology to play otherwise the financial system will force one on you!

I agree the govt/business partnership is critical. I just hope a true "expert" is put in charge.

The last thing we need is one more politician heading the effort... We've seen enough of that already with who's in charge of the security agencies.

How hard s to ask "What is best for America?" And, what I mean by America is American's not whatever bureaucracy they're part of.

    Rudy is not the "expert".

    We'll see about Joyce.

"How hard s to ask "What is best for America?" "

EXTREMELY hard because the answer differs from person to person. It's like trying to find one question everyone will answer the same way (if you can do that, you'd be on your way towards finding an absolute in this universe).

    "NSA hacking crew "

Yes that about sums up how most SysAdmins should view them.

His organization is certainly a data fetishist.
