China may soon be home to Donald Trump-themed escort services. Preliminary approval has been granted for 38 trademarks for Trump-branded escort services, massage parlors, and bars in China, according to public documents. Approval comes as the US President and his family prepare to develop a range of branded businesses in the …

Other famous people do the same, not for opening a business, but it's a preventative measure meant to keep others from registering the trademark. This also is why famous people register "mynameSUCKS.com" for the same reason.

Clodagh really needs to read up on copyright and trademarks to understand this practice.

I gather that those posters who get too many complaints from other posters are put on probation, and their posts are held up for staff approval. Makes my posts appear much farther down the threads, but there it is.

I didn't help any when I called out certain El Reg authors who started to say things I thought were beneath the high standards of this publication. I really respect El Reg and I'd rather not see it go down the tabloid road. I've learned my lesson tho, and will just let it pass in future.

The other posters are a different matter, however. They will get no free pass from me. Let 'em complain. Let 'em downvote me. The US is in the midst of a major political war, and I intend to call BS wherever I see baseless leftist claptrap that needs refuting.

The problem right now is that the left seems to have declared war on the right because their feelings have been hurt. I'm sorry about that, but someone has to lose every election. Both sides have lost their share, but never in my experience has a party gone this far over the edge because of it. Sure, that's why there is already an investigation underway, because he did it all fully in compliance with the law. FFS, the guy doesn't even know what a blind trust is, and his truth scarecrow had to be "counselled" on breaking the law - evidently without any real further consequences.

As for doing things legal, this morning I saw a respectable publication use the word 'impeachment" for the first time, which sure is a record (not even 50 days in office). Later I found investigations in progress that are going past that. I wonder when the word "treason" shows up for the first time - I give it a month, tops.

Right, and instead the media tries to pile on Trump for openly (and legally) selling his cachet, rather than engaging in secret influence peddling like Warren and Clinton.

Maybe one can argue with the legality based on conflict of interest, but it's not in the same league with Hillary's 100's of millions taken in obvious bribes by foreign leaders, but insistently called "donations to charity." And the minute it becomes clear she won't be President, those donations completely dry up, go figure.

I mean, how ridiculous would it be? Is someone pulling the newsies' legs again? Wouldn't be the first.

I honestly find it hard to believe even Trump would be this tasteless, or sailing this close to the wind legally. But easy to believe that everyone would be suckered into re-posting this bit of 'news', given the popularity abroad of POTUS.

These guys have a different spin on it, more like Taylor Swift TM-ing everything under the sun:

    http://www.spin.com/2017/03/trump-escorts-china-trademark/

But I do wonder - trademarks don't force you to trademark every possible combination of what you are protecting, so would Trump Escorts really be necessary if Trump in general was TM-ed? Mc Donalds for example, manages to screw over pretty much anyone getting close to its name.

Re: For once, I am hoping this is fake news... it's quite silly, actually.

RE: "because Russia- and China-based banks basically own his soul."

Based on Trumps rhetoric I'd guess mostly Russian based banks own his soul. Perhaps China banks own one of his tiny hands.

But, much as I enjoy trashing the way he looks, a part of me cringes that I'm indulging in using a persons appearance to maul him, when what he does and who he chooses to help him do it are much better targets and, what he does has much worse effects on real people than his appearance does.

The Republican moves to wind back health care to where it was before Obama tried his best to improve it are much more deadly than his hair style and language.

To return to appearance for a moment though: Trumps Brain, Bannon, looks like a drunk, and a mean, bitter, far right drunk who has failed in so many things is a dangerous man to have so close to the levers of power and influence. The far right must be wetting themselves to have one of their own in such a position. I feel the danger lies in Bannon hiding behind Trumps distractions and idiocies, plotting who the hell knows what is far more dangerous than Trumps Twitter wars. I suspect Bannon has no more respect for Trump than do the rest of us here laughing at Trumps hair style, but is using the Twitterous one for his own ends.

So I agree with you: Bannon is using Trump, and Bannon has the more dangerous, off-the-rails political ideas. Trump, I think, really has no coherent ideology; it's mostly just "Corporations, good! Woman that are escorts to men are no different than the wives, girlfriends and other assorted woman that a man asks to be their escort to a function. Having a beautiful woman on his arm is a very big source of pride for a man. Being an escort does not mean sex is involved and the writer of this article should get their mind out of the gutter and learn the difference. Going to a massage parlor does not mean your going there for sex either. That is illegal here in the USA. You get a massage by someone who knows how to take the tension out of a persons muscles. Again take the mind out of the gutter.

I just can't figure out why some people figure that if a man is out with a beautiful woman younger than himself and it is not know if it is his niece, daughter or wife, they immediately jump to the conclusion it's a hooker and not an escort. Maybe the problem remains in the eyes and warped brain of the beholder and not with the couple.

    Trump with escort services? Nah.

Oh ya. Where do you think his [current] wife came from?

According to various sites, she came over to the US in a non-work Visa permit and what did she do? Get a job at Trump's escort service in New York. Since it was illegal for her to work in the US, she was paid "under the table" [hmmmm] which means she and the escort service didn't pay taxes there.

One story claimed she amassed $20,000 in 3 months. She must of done a good job escorting! :-)

Of course she learned from her [current] husband and is taking a British tabloid [I believe] to court for calling her an escort.

    She wants $150 million !!!
