      Software-defined, not software-only.

      Your definition of software-defined might mean no hardware acceleration, but that's just you ;-)

    Hmm. Was at Compaq when HP killed off Tru64 UNIX and AlphaServer, and spent a couple of years at SimpliVity. I bet I know where this is going.

    Maybe they will swap my SimpliVity shares for Itanium CPUs. Arf.

    Life got harder for Nutanix too

    Growth will be harder with the HPE salesforce against them as well as the Dell/EMC one - those two must cover the majority of Enterprise accounts.

    Regardless of what Gartner says, Nutanix and Dell-EMC (VX:RAIL/RACK) are the vast majority of the business.

    Netapps = "integrated systems leader" ?

    Gartner's MQ for "integrated systems" has Netapps among the "leaders". And yet TheReg commentary says "... and effectively nowhere in the market - are IBM (no X86 server products) and NetApp."

    So which is it? Perhaps Gartner again has a "special definition" for categories, in this case "integrated systems".

      Integrated systems by most definitions (a.k.a reference architectures, or pre-built collections of servers/storage/switches) aren't considered hyperconverged since there are still separate boxes for those functions.

      Hyperconverged, again by most definitions, collapses together at a bare minimum the server/storage pieces, typically with easy management. Some go much further than that, others don't.
