back to article Portsmouth Historic Dockyard: Further poster outrage

Our shock exposé earlier this week of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard poster campaign outrage promoted a provocative call to Vulture Central from one "Barnacle Bill", who claimed to have been party to the original promotion brainstorm which eventually led to the rather unfortunately accurate depiction of seafaring life back in …

    Missing Flag

I would have thought that one of the lonely crewmembers from HMS The Good Ship Venus might be communicating with the some similarly lonely soul on the Martina Navratilova using the international Code Flag Zulu...

They arn't lying either - it's actually a pretty cool trip to the ol' historic d*ck yard - I used to live pretty close to it and took family visiting from Manchester there, they all loved it.

Another fairly touristy thing to do is take a boat trip around from Gun Wharf... you get to see the old boats from another angle, and get some pretty impressive comparative views of the modern warships just a bit further along. I could see my house on the boat ride too!! :D

A story of danger & adventure on the high seas.

Captain Coppernob by Lawrence R Bourne.

I found this book, while clearing out my fathers house.

    There's a copy on e-bay as well.

    Fair Play?

Usually, these type of things result in C&D takedown notices all over the place in attempts to kill negative publicity. It's refreshing to see that they realise the value of this publicity and are using it positively for their benefit. In other words, even though they won't use the image, it has basically done it's job anyway!

Me too, and I'm in no way a maritime enthusiast - I also recommend a trip up the Spinnaker Tower on a clear day, even if you're not inclined to do the touristy things. The views are worth it.

Nice to see the people at the Dockyard take the article in the spirit in which it was intended ;-)
