Has The Reg sold it's soul to the highest bidder?

Considering the contempt with which most commentards regard anything tagged as "IoT", you have to wonder why this event is being flogged so much and to whom it is aimed.

Most readers of the Reg couldn't give two figs about this sort event.

Oh goody. All the 'fans' of IoT gathered together in one place.

Perhaps someone might like to make them {see Icon} for being so stupid.

Until IoT is peoperly secured it should be banned outright.

It's ok really. There will be a security seminar, the highlight of which will be a TED-style talk by Steve Bong on how to fail early and fail often.

Wouldn't it be easier to hack into the air conditioning and freeze them to death?

To be fair they have to pay the bills somehow. Especially with all their bl**dy minded readership insisting on using ad blockers ;-)

No, of course no! It is just like with DevOPS, we thought it was so interesting that we couldn't stop posting updates on the conferences and seminars and other marvelous, exciting opportunities to let you know at all times what was doing on on the wonderful world of DevOPS. Nothing to do with selling our souls whatsoever, we were just Thinking about You! (tm).

      Donald Trump icon please

for "Where is the Donald Trump angle?"

What's his take on IoT? I presume he would want IoT devices to be made in USA by American Citizens and not overseas

using "Eat This" as a substitute

Between this and the online terrorist supplier, otherwise known as W.H.Smiths, warnings - is El Reg trying to become mainstream?

If so, then we need to form a parody site, and quick.

There does seem to be a panel all about security, but it seem to be aimed at making sure data is anonymised etc, rather than protecting it in the first place.

Perhaps there should be a starter session covering topics such as "Don't Use The Same Bloody Default Password On Every Device", and "If You Never Update The Version Of Busybox You Use, You're Gonna Get Pwned", and of course, the always popular "No You Blinking Idiot, A Hardcoded SSH Back Door Is Not A Good Idea, What Kind Of Pillock Would Think That?".

I think it could be very instructive.
