Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has ruled out making a play for Twitter. Speaking to the Financial Times, Benioff said “... we’ve walked away.     Losing 100m/quarter

    No company can continue to lose money, they will eventually run out. Twitter is not quite at death's door if they can reduce their costs enough they can survive. However, when several profitable companies looked more closely they did not like what they saw and publicly backed away. That would indicate Twitter has more problems below the surface which could easily sink them.

      It's easy to lose money when it's not theirs.

      If it's just cash pumped into them by vulture capitalists, they may not care too much.

      But yes, whatever the source, the cheques will eventually start bouncing.

    Twitter going down will help to save journalism, since hacks would have to actually work to write a story instead of just picking 10 tweets and pasting them together. Also it would stop stupid stories appearing about an equally stupid tweet.

    I used to cycle a lot... and tired or not, falling off a cliff face such as twitter's share price since this announcement is not my idea of a fun ride Simon....

    who saw this coming... maybe everyone?

    I tried to get it, i signed up at least twice. I even talked to the company's social media person (some 20 something cross-channel specialist.. whatever that is).... but i could not get over the pointlessness of twitter. It actively took technology that was available and clipped its wings.

    Hey Silicon Valley, a business model includes a way to make money. The current 'build something' and then wonder how to make cash from it is taking any means of assessing value from things leading to $18 billion being paid for Whatsapp.

    Watch Dragon's Den or talk to an accountant. The value of a business is a fairly simple equation of costs, income, customers etc so by any intelligent definition of the term, Twitter has always been worthless!

    As if Salesforce needed help at losing money... no, the odds of Salesforce buying Twitter were always slimmer than the odds of Marc Benioff getting a decent haircut.

    Pity the poor taxpayer

    Given how much money the slurpers of seemingly every nation have put into trawling Twitter for signs of everything from terrorism through to political discontent and seasonal flu, I'm suprised governments aren't lining up to buy it in order to protect their/our investment.

    Twitter losing money - will eventually close

    Perhaps if people stopped using Facebook, or at least stopped promoting it or blocked all the ads it might eventually close too. Then we would only have the problem of how to regulate Google.

    Amazon, Apple, MS, AirBNB, Uber etc are all adequately covered by pre-internet laws, if they were enforced.

    Why do Police, Broadcasters, Local Councils, Big companies all promote Twitter & Facebook on the their websites (driving away traffic)? It's not the golden pages / yellow pages.

    They moderate, thus are not common carriers, yet don't do it properly, also are they even in reality legal in EU and other places with EU style legal systems?

    I'm undecided.

    When Twitter does meet it's end, i'm undecided as to whether the nations (UK) health (mental) will improve or decline once the millenials, celebs and wannabe celebs have no outlet for their narcissistic prattle.

    Disclaimer : I spend about 5 mins a week perusing some accounts for the perverse pleasure of being able to repeatedly utter WTF.
