    Isn't (?wasn't) the USP of OS maps that someone went and actually measures everything by hand instead of relying on interpolating data from images and other stuff?

    I demand the OS send up a survey team (and a vat of tea) and do the job properly...

      Add a brush, duster, batteries and a few spare wheels so they can give Spirit and Opportunity a helping hand and quick service too whilst they're at it.

      They did that in 1949.

      They also did that this time by going up there and placing a GPS unit on the trig post and comparing/correcting with super res ground based GPS kit.

    At £25 for a hiking map, they're helping price Mars out of the reach of any hopeful garden-shed rocket builders.

    I see that the second of the two maps included in the article has some nice contours with heights marked.

    What was the Datum used, and is it the subject of any international agreement? Seems a trifle unlikely...
