back to article Polish airline LOT was grounded after 'IT attack' took hold

An unspecified IT attack has left 1,400 passengers of Polish flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines stuck in Warsaw, after the company discovered it was unable to file flight plans for its departing aircraft. Reuters reports that the airline's ground computer system — used to issue the flight plans — had been "hacked" on Sunday …

    there are worse places to be stuck (as long as you are in a nice hotel)

    i was stranded there where eyjafjallajökull hiccups

    it only takes about a day to get back to london by train, sleeper warsaw-köln (book in the highest class you can get), thalys köln-brussells, eurostar brussels-london, it's advisable to take a hamper and plenty of beer and/or wine

      The scarecycle (not newscycle anymore) is reducing every year. If anything else happens in the world of IT in the next week this will be swept under the rug by the weekend.

        Exponentially?

        So scarestories are NP-complete?

    Airport != Airline

    Just a minor nitpick.

    What you quoted when you said "The [LOT ]company used Twitter" is actually the feed of Polish Airports, specifically the Warsaw Airport's one. It's basically like British Airways vs Heathrow Airport Holdings (the actual LOT feed, curiously, seems to be defunct).

    Funnily enough, this distinction is not always apparent to people who apply for jobs there, resulting in e.g. this conversation:

    Candidate: "Well, one of the reasons I'm applying is I always thought working for Polish Airlines would be fun!"

    Recruiting employee: "Yeah, that would be our neighbors from the office down the street..."

    What Mikko said.

    The news as reported make no sense whatsoever.

    I do wonder however which system they use.
