back to article Update - Boffins: COMETS are like FRIED ICE CREAM. Mmm

Boffins working for Caltech and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory have created comet-like stuff in a cryostat. Along the way, they've decided that your average comet is kind of like fried ice-cream: squishy on the inside, crusty on the outside, with organic chemicals dusted on top. Both the ESA's Rosetta and NASA's Deep Impact …

I suppose then that hot fudge syrup and sprinkles wouldn't make them taste good then? Interesting analogy they used to say the least but the results of the science are mind-blowing.

    I read that wrong

I read that as "Comments are like fried ice-cream" . I thought this was going to be about the ephemeral nature of thread comments....

    Wonderful

Specifically a "Fab". But you'll need a "Zoom" to get to one.

    I'VE KNOWN THAT FOR YEARS.

Have the scientists finally read "Lucifer's Hammer" ??

    comet demo

Know a guy who did science demo's with his version being:

    Dry Ice

    Water (freezes with dry ice)

    dusted with instant coffee granules.

Seemed to match the spectroscopy quite well

More like iced coffee than fried icecream.

    But...

    ... what flavour?

    Mmmmm

Their description sounds more like a Baked Alaska with sprinkles.

    Or maybe a sunburnt Vienetta.

    WTF?

    Fairy floss?

Here in England, it was always called candy floss when I was a kid. Never heard of fairy floss.

    Bah!

So, in texture it is more like a fried Mars bar then?
