back to article 'Dancing Jesus' file-sharer found guilty

A man who shared thousands of links to songs on a music leaks site has pleaded guilty to illegal distribution of copyrighted works at Newcastle Crown Court. The "Dancing Jesus" forum (it’s a Simpsons reference) was operated from North Shields by Kane Robinson, with servers in Dallas, and specialised in links to pre-release …

Aren't they supposed to be catching terrorists?

Don't you know? Copyright Theft funds Terrorism!

You can tell by the number of acts of terrorism Mr Dancing Jesus committed...

        Re: Marsbarbrain Re: Homeland security

"Don't you know? Copyright Theft funds Terrorism!...." I assume you were too riven by paranoid terror (self-terrorism?) to go and read the US DHS website and understand that they also cover such matters (along with immigration, customs, and natural disasters). In all, the DHS is an amalgamation of 22 previous US Gov agencies and departments and so has a pretty wide remit.

I completely agree. No other crime should be investigated or punished until all terrorists everywhere are convicted.

    Sure he's a freetard

but Homeland Security? Was he also branded a terror suspect for the purposes of getting appropriate sieze powers?

No m'dear, DHS does economic crime too:

In my day DHS used to do unemployment benefit and pensions.

Or was it DHSS? I can't keep up!

Maybe he figured it would be the last place they'd look 'cause only a crazy fule would do something that stupid...

"Homeland Security officials seized the servers in Texas in September 2011"

On the 10th anniversary of 9/11 Homeland security finally scored one for the Good Guys against the terrorists by, er, seizing a server in Texas used to download music.

    It's all good

All crims should spend a long time in prison including this chap.

I'd fully agree and eagerly await footage of most parliamentarians, FTSE 100 directors and the entire advertising industry to join him, preferably in the same cell. Forever.

        Re: It's all good

That's a bit harsh, the guy only facilitated copyright infringement.

FTFY (or did you mean he should receive further perks/punishment whilst there?)

Why spend a long time in prison?

Is that where ignorant fools, after may years schooling, finally get to learn where Mexico isn't?

    Jesus

I wish it was the other bloke, Muhammad...

no, sorry, this would be GROSSLY offensive and TOTALLY unacceptable to have a dancing Muhammad. And, obviously, not wise to be associated with the manufacturers.

    WTF?

What is this, punch the monkey?

I just blocked that fucking flashing gif linked to this story. That you stuck on every page.

Yep, AdBlock Plus isn't just good for blocking annoying adverts!

Yeah, that and 'esc' doesn't stop the animation any more (at least in firefox) due to some weird decision by the devs. I need to re-download an extension to fix that I think :(

Re: What is this, punch the monkey?

I don't mind el Reg engaging in some animated hijinx with Jesus (or rejecting the original version of this post), but does that animation have to be so g*-awfully irritating? Try subtle, for C*'s sake!

      image.animation_mode, once.

Re: What is this, punch the monkey?

Thing is, to allow ElReg some advertising income, I exempt the site from ABP.

I've added that ridiculous gif as an individual filter, but it just shows up after a refresh. That's sticking a wildcard on the end to allow for the post "?" parameters.

ABP being switched on for the whole site now. Very disappointed with ElReg on this.

      Unhappy

Re: What is this, punch the monkey?

I've had to enable ABP for the whole ElReg site now, after "block element" appeared not to work with the site/domain as a whole being exempted. As I don't seem to be the only one finding it ridiculously annoying, I'd imagine that there's some loss of revenue, thanks to one pointless gif being forced onto readers' screens.

Ridiculous gif that I'd expect to see on some teenage forum. Not here. Really disappointing from ElReg.

HOw did he get the files in the first place?

As I said to my lad when he decided to put his band on utube : if you are going to give people access to a music file for free they aren't gonna pay for it!

If these big companies are that daft as to allow pre release music into the wild, why should police time be wasted pursuing it.
