".... There is no money here, STOPhaus are 100% volunteer efforts....." The implication is the systems and other evidence the Police seized include enough proof of other criminal activities, including money laundering, to charge him with that crime as well.

The stupid kid has wrecked his future. A criminal record for dishonesty isn't the sort of thing that's going to get him employed or even funded for his own legit business, should that be his chosen path.

To me it's sort of like Val Resnick in the film Ransom. Occasionally hangs out and interacts with the big boys, thinks he's one of them but is actually just a squirmy little worm with an over-inflated self-worth.
