Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations stall again

We can only hope that this con job on the public of most participating countries fails and the treaty never comes into force.

Japans protectionist attitude ..

"According to Reuters, the latest round of talks in Singapore ground to a halt because America and Japan are butting heads over the latter's protectionist attitude towards rice, wheat and meat production"

The one thing we can be assured about this Trans-Pacific Partnership is, it isn't a partnership and isn't about free trade. What it will do is sign away Japan's intellectual property rights in relations to, for example, such sectors as software and non-GMP crops, as in it will be illegal to ban GMP crops or even label such food-stuffs. Dilute local laws against the use of dangerous pesticides and herbicides. The bit about "regulatory coherence" should be the dead give-away. So, basically signatories to the "partnership", will end up paying America for writing their own software, making their own drugs and growing their own crops. If you look at a list of corporations who helped write the agreement, you'll get an idea of who it's meant to really benefit.

Is everyone else amused

that the US is saying there are too many agricultural tariffs? Especially given in earlier leaks they were alleged to be trying to water down the free trade aspect for agriculture...

it's kind of nice to know that major corporations are no better at negotiating treaties between themselves than nations are.
